When I am not framing… I can usually be found sea kayaking in Puget Sound, gardening or tackling the 5 acres of blackberry bushes around our home – I believe the blackberries are winning at this point!
My favorite indulgence … a jar of gourmet olives – yum!
My childhood ambition was… believe it or not, to be a long haul truck driver. We used to go on long family road trips when I was young and I dreamed of seeing the country by driving a truck, eating at the truck stops and sleeping in the cab. Needless to say, I got over wanting to be a trucker, but not the idea of seeing the country and the world.
If I were an animal, I would be… a cat in MY home. My own chair at the dinner table, lots of good love, walks with the humans, and plenty of mice to chase.
My inspiration comes from… the art itself and the customers’ stories that go with the pieces they brought in. So much can be learned from the story behind the art and if you listen to everything - the story, where it will hang and the energy they want (dramatic, soothing, etc) - the design will unfold. Of course a little “Tigger Bounce” through life never hurts the inspiration either.
If I could spend my next vacation in any way I want, I would… see the world by kayak. Iceland, Ireland, Canada … you name it. If it has a coast line, paddle it. What a unique way to see the world and meet the people who live there!
Why I love my job… Simple. I love working with people and I love the stories that they bring. As a bonus, I get to be creative and help people design something they will love forever.
My best design advice is… the design just feels “OK,” then it’s not right. It’s when the design has a “WOW” effect that you know it’s perfect. Don’t settle. There’s a good chance you will reframe that piece in a few years time if you do.
If I were a piece of art, I would be… a character out of a comic strip, not the usual way one would think of when a person thinks of art. I relate better to Hobbs from Calvin and Hobbs… ready to be thoughtful one moment and run and play the next.
